RhinoplastyRhinoplasty represents the change in the shape of the nose and is one of the most common operations performed today in plastic surgery. Often, the structure or size of the nose cannot be combined with other facial features. Rhinoplasty surgery, aimed at changing the shape of the nose can correct inharmonious appearance, changing the size or shape of the nose, the size of the nostrils, or the angle between the tip of the nose and upper lip. In addition, rhinoplasty is performed to correct birth defects or injuries of the nose, as well as to resolve chronic respiratory problems. It is import ant to understand that to undergo this procedure; patients may have reached fifteen years old or older, because this operation is only possible if the nose is fully and finally formed. Principle of operation During a closed rhinoplasty procedure, the doctor makes small incisions inside the nostrils to gain access to the bone and cartilage. In contrast to the open rhinoplasty, the skin is not removed from the skeleton of the nose. With the help of miniature surgical instruments, the doctor achieves the desired shape of the nose by removing or adding bone, cartilage and tissue. While some physicians prefer the closed technique, because it provides a short recovery period and the duration of the surgery, the both methods give excellent results. During the procedure of opened rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes a small incision in the columella and inside of each nostril. In contrast to the closed rhinoplasty, the incisions allow the doctor to correct anatomical components of the separated nose, which provide full visualization of the nose. After that, the plastic surgeon can see the skeleton of the nose and make an accurate correction of its form and structure. Using special tools and advanced technology of operation, the physician can achieve the desired shape of the nose by removing or adding bone, cartilage and tissue. At the beginning of the operation, the doctor usually makes two cuts. A small incision is made in the columella - the site of tissue separating the nostrils. Using a retractor to open the inside of the nose, the doctor makes an incision, known as the boundary, which runs from the notch on columella up each nostril. Using surgical scissors, the surgeon carefully dissects the skin on the notch on the columella, to distinguish it from the frame. Then, in the course of the operation dissection of the anatomical components of the nose is performed. This allows the doctor to carry out the exact shape of the nose correction. |
