Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is abreast enlargement in men. True gynecomastia is caused by overgrowth of glandular tissue (breast tissue), the false gynecomastia is associated with massive fat deposits in obesity, which increase the volume of breast glands.

The main manifestation of gynecomastia is the appearance of seals in the breast tissue and its increase. In contrast to adipose tissue, fibroadipose tissue or the tissue that is formed at gynecomastia has a higher density.

Gynecomastia may be accompanied by painful sensations when touched. Pain is caused by the rapid growth of glandular tissue. Later on, pain may decrease or disappear.

Usually this disease is relatively rare met in men, but often leads to the same serious long-term existence of increases the risk of breast cancer. Suspicious for breast cancer are the symptoms such as bleeding from the nipples, the appearance of the seals, changes in the skin over masses, the appearance of ulceration, and the increase in axillary lymph nodes.

Conservative treatment of gynecomastia is aimed at normalizing balance of testosterone /estrogen. The drugs are used to increase levels of testosterone and estrogen. However, the risk of taking these drugs is very high and this type of treatment is rarely used.

In addition, the use of drugs is effective only at the initial stages of the disease. Gynecomastia, existing for several years, as a rule, does not lend itself to conservative treatment.

The aim of surgical treatment of gynecomastia is removal of breast tissue and restore normal contour of the breast in men. There are currently several operations to remove gynecomastia.

The operation is easy to undergo and it does not require a long rehabilitation period. Hospitalization usually is 1day (for gynecomastia with small size - you can go home a few hours after surgery).

During the first2-3 weeks after the operation it is necessary to wear underwear Waist (elastic special shirt) for an adequate reduction of the skin and the formation of the normal contour of the chest muscles.

It is allowed to start working within 5-7days after surgery (sometimes - before), to go in for sports - after 3-4weeks.
